Newsflash: TuksCricket on top of the world

Assupol TuksCricket have been crowned the winners of the 2014 edition of the RedBull Campus Cricket World Finals champions.

After a very tough semi final against the university team from India, which went down to the final over, needing 4 runs to win, the winning runs were hit off the first ball of the over to secure our spot in the Final of the tournament. This was the first time South Africa and South African. Universities were represented at this exciting T20 tournament.

Assupol TuksCricket came up against the West Indian team, whom they had beaten in their final pool game earlier in the week.

With the final promising to have all the makings of a good contest, Assupol TuksCricket won the toss and elected to bat, putting up a good score and making the West Indian team have to chase 189 runs to win.

The Tuks team came out firing and in the usual fashion, that secured them the place In The finals, tightened up in the bowling and fielding placing pressure on the opposition.

With the West Indies requiring 45 runs off the last over, the writing was on the wall, and Assupol TuksCricket were crowned winners and World Champions, representing South African in this international tournament.

This is an amazing achievement, to complete the already successful last 3 years of the TuksCricket club, having won the National Cricket a Club championship earlier in the year, the National USSA tournament in December 2013, and being crowned Team of the Year at the Gauteng Sports Awards two weeks ago.

Congratulations must go out to the Head Coach Pierre De Bruyn, the various other TuksCricket coaches who played a role, the management and administration of the club, the sport science and medical staff who supported the team in its preparation and especially the group of players whom have out many hours of hard work and dedication into achieving this milestone.

Assupol TuksCricket once again showed what the winning culture at the university of Pretoria and TuksSport is about, and this should prove to the South African community at SA teams can compete and win world finals and championships.
