Living up close and personal
On mission with Paul – part 4
In essence we are all missionaries! There is a missionary call on all of us!
We are called to be like in our communities with the same characteristics of God! Paul says, ‘we are to be e fragrance of Christ’
But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life. And who is equal to such a task? Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as those sent from God. (2 Corinthians 2:14-17 NIV)
1. Captives of the procession …
But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.
Our mission in life should be a glorification of Christ, not being the key person building a name for myself!
2. The Pleasing aroma of Christ
For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.
and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. (Ephesians 5:2 NIV)
3. Death or a Life – it’s a choice to accept the aroma
To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life
Also 1 Thesalonians 2
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14 NIV)
Day in and Day out live it out!
We are called to to get close to people and invade space! It needs to effect and influence others.
4. Practical steps
… Intentionally present
… Out of your comfort zone
… An attitude of learning
… Be vulnerable
… Be aware
… Do good works
1 Corinthians 9:19-23
Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings. (1 Corinthians 9:19-23 NIV)
