On Mission with Paul – Tim Tucker @eastside_moreletta
Overcoming foot and mouth disease – Romans 10
We have he potential to remember times when we were on fire for Jesus proclaiming the gospel, BUT we also remember the numerous times when we had the spiritual foot and mouth disease, when we could not proclaim the gospel and could not share.
Brothers and sisters, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes. Moses writes this about the righteousness that is by the law: “The person who does these things will live by them.” But the righteousness that is by faith says: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ down) “or ‘Who will descend into the deep?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?” Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. But I ask: Did they not hear? Of course they did: “Their voice has gone out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.” Again I ask: Did Israel not understand? First, Moses says, “I will make you envious by those who are not a nation; I will make you angry by a nation that has no understanding.” And Isaiah boldly says, “I was found by those who did not seek me; I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me.” But concerning Israel he says, “All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and obstinate people.” (Romans 10:1-21 NIV)
Against this context Paul makes four statements, keys for us to share so at people come to Christ.
Key 1: understand our own Salvation
… Romans 10, 8-10
… We need to understand he core elements of our faith and being able to articulate them to others … Confess and Believe is he 2 core words!
.. We confess at Jesus is the son of God, and He came to save and give us life through salvation .. We believe God raised Him from the dead!
.. Only in Christ we can escape the judgement we each deserve! .. It’s in that confession that we re saved!
These words of Paul validate everyone’s testimony! All of us have the same testimony if we have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, it’s a testimony not about me, but about HIM!
The common denominator is about confession! The only message we have is the message of Jesus Christ! God has done it!
Key 2: understand the universality of our mission
… Romans 10: 11-13
… For everyone who calls on the name of The Lord will be saved! … Who can be saved?
.. Anyone who puts there trust in Him and Everyone who calls not he name of The Lord! .. Gods gracious is sufficient for everyone! No one cannot be saved! .. Anyone, All, Everyone – 3 focus words!
.. We think we are passionate for the lost, but it’s actually God who wants it more – He give his one and only son!
Key 3: Go and Say
… If we believe that ultimately everyone won’t be saved
… Romans 10: 14-15
… How can they hear if someone does not preach?
.. It’s our responsibility to go and say!
.. There is no substitute for the one on one sharing of your faith and salvation!
.. Everything we have been given is a deposit, but if we don’t use it to serve God we have failed! It’s using all the equipment God has given us, having an anointed tongue! .. It’s for each and every missionary, and each of us have a mission!
Key 4: the role of faith
… Romans 10: 16-17
… Does this guarantee fruit … But not all believe the message. It’s there choice ultimately! … Ultimately it’s not about how we spoke.
Salvation is a response of faith to the message been heard!
… As we do our bit, God provides the platform through the sparks of faith that God through the Holy Spirit works in a life and leads to salvation! .. We help cultivate the fertile soil, but the Holy Spirit makes it happen!!!
Important to remember
1. The Holy Spirit is always at work
2. We must pray
3. Our call is to be faithful
4. We must remain confident
We celebrate as one person confesses with their mouth by believing with there heart that Jesus still exists and He is our savior!!!
